A Night in the Bush with My Son: Simple, Refreshing, and Worth It
Last weekend, I took my son out bush for a night. No big expedition, no fancy plans just a simple setup, good company, and the quiet of nature.
I strung up my hammock under a hootchie tarp, while he had his own setup nearby. As the sun dipped below the trees, we settled in, the only sounds around us being the rustle of leaves and the occasional call of a night bird. It didn’t take long to remember why I love this, just being out there, away from the noise of everyday life, makes all the difference.
We didn’t have an agenda. We just hung out. Talked about nothing and everything. Cooked a simple meal over the fire. Watched the stars. There’s something about the bush that slows things down, clears the mind, and resets the soul.
By morning, I felt a kind of quiet refreshment that you just don’t get from a night in front of the TV. It doesn’t take much, just a bit of gear, a willingness to go, and an appreciation for the simplicity of it all.
If you’ve been thinking about heading out but keep putting it off, just do it. A night in the bush, whether solo or with someone you care about, can be exactly what you need.
Get out there!
